We prayed for healing, the whole church, the hospital she worked at, I'm pretty sure that prayer request went all over the USA. As everyone fervently prayed, we saw a miracle happen, for a good while it was touch and go as he faced his mortality. Then he started getting better and better.
I can remember one time, I was at a get together at her sister in laws house and her sister in law told me that she rushed her husband to the emergency room because he had a nasty headache. My voice quivered when I lead the prayer, even typing this makes me tear up as I remember how we all held our breath waiting for an update. At the end of the evening, we found out it was just a migraine. That evening we were all praising God for allowing him to live through all that he went through.
About 4 or 5 years ago, there was a house warming party for our neighbors, even through chemo brain he remembered my dad. He pointed to our house and said 'I used to know the guy that lived there.' Then he told me I looked like him. That was a wonderful day.
In the last couple of years something has happened that has made me question our want vs God's will.
It started with my friends husband forgetting things, then he had to retire, then he couldn't drive. My husband and I went over there yesterday and what I saw broke my heart. He now has to have home health care visits, almost constant supervision, he has to be careful when he walks and he isn't allowed outside without supervision. He went outside when no one was home and fell, he had been there a few hours before his neighbor finally found him and called my friend.
While we were there, he went to the key holder, picked up a key and asked her if it was to her car, she told him no, it was to the tractor. Then he picked up the right keys and she told him. Then he walked off. He wondered around talking to himself and talking to us.
My friend pretty much raised her two boys while taking care of Dr. visits, chemo treatments and a full time job as well as being active in church.
When we left, I prayed quietly. I asked God , when we prayed for our friends healing, if we were in His will. I'm always quick to pray to the Great Physician for healing but seeing our friend be the head of her household and doing it all, as her husband slowly seems to fade, it makes rethink the way I pray. I never want to see my friends struggle like that.
I see the miracle of her husbands life but I also see what she is going through. I see God's blessings pouring out all over that family, luckily she has a strong support system of friends. When she calls, we all come running.
| Jer 29:11For I
know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD,
"plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a
future. This has rolled around in my head since yesterday God is really hitting me with this scripture. Do you think I should pray God's will be done? ( I always want His will but when it comes to prayers for healing, I just pray for healing, was I wrong?) What do you think? |
